PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Prior to my role as NCCPAP’s public relations manager, its members had been regularly meeting with the IRS, testifying before members of Congress and shaping tax policy in their respective states with little to no recognition in the press. Our PR efforts significantly increased NCCPAP’s visibility as members became regular contributors to financial and tax publications.
Recognition in local and national media outlets further solidified NCCPAP members’ reputations as experts in their field. CPAs who serve NCCPAP to shape tax policy do so on a voluntary basis. Getting them recognized in publications that garnered press for the organization had a positive secondary effect by providing marketing for their own practices. This not only increased their own value in the view of their clients and prospective clients, but elevated the value of a NCCPAP membership.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NCCPAP Member to Testify Tuesday before Senate Committee on Finance
Issued by the National Conference of CPA Practitioners (NCCPAP)
March 6, 2015, Washington, D.C. -- The National Conference of CPA Practitioners (NCCPAP) is pleased to announce that one of our members, Carol Markman, CPA, has been invited to testify before the Senate Committee on Finance, at a hearing entitled: "Tax Complexity, Compliance, and Administration: The Merits of Simplification in Tax Reform." The hearing is scheduled to take place Tuesday March 10, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., in Room 215 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.
According to Markman, "There are many aspects of the tax code that are ripe for simplification." Markman's practical recommendations, which she will share during her testimony, arise from her 35 years of working as a CPA specializing in taxation; her primary clientele during this time has been individuals and small businesses.
Throughout her career, Markman has held numerous leadership positions in professional organizations including: President of the National Conference of CPA Practitioners, NCCPAP, the only professional organization solely focused on representing Certified Public Accountants in Public Practice; Chairperson of NCCPAP's Tax Policy Committee; and currently serves on the AICPA Tax Executive Committee. Previously, she has served as a member of the Internal Revenue Service Advisory Council for a three-year term. Markman is currently the Director of Taxation for EP Caine & Associates, CPA LLC of Bryn Mawr, PA.
Following the hearing and prior to departing Washington D.C., Markman will be available for interviews.
